Alice M. The Avantgarde Music vinyl edition brought this to my attention; I'm a bit late, but wow.
Lots of genres are spanned here and yet it remains really cohesive. Epic, ghastly, slightly ambient. No need to be a hardcore Tolkien fan or anything either – just dig in and enjoy.

KillingForCompany tracing the monstrous shadows and descending into the mine - choral chants and a subtly varied vocal approach make this a rather entertaining funeral doom debut by Khazad-dûm. Favorite track: Monstrous Flesh.

Matthew Hamill Monolithic blackened funeral doom, from the depths of Moria. You would be a fool to pass up checking this out. Favorite track: Monstrous Flesh.

tr_🇺🇦 Captivating, epic excursion into funeral doom and BM. Growls, blackened screams and chanting. I get Sonny92's sentiment about Lovecraft, especially because I don't like LOTR. Fans of Finnish funsters Tyranny should take note; that goes for anyone who appreciates atmosphere done right by virtue of good songwriting rather than overreliance on ambient sounds. Favorite track: Mountainous Structures.

Robbi Graves This is some of the best funeral doom I have ever heard. I can't stop listening to this album. It has completely dethroned Ahab from my top spot. If funeral doom is your thing, you will love this album. Everything that's good about the genre is here. Haunting and evocative, with riffs so heavy their atomic weight cannot even be classified. Favorite track: Stones of Sorrow.

Sonny92 A funeral doom journey into the depths of the dwarven mines of Moria from JRR Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring. It brilliantly portrays the morbid, dread atmosphere of the long-abandoned dwarven ruin and the malignant presence of it's most infernal inhabitant, taking Tolkien away from the folksy, hopefulness of Peter Jackson's movie portrayal and planting it firmly in the sphere inhabited by Lovecraft's eldritch, dreadful Elder Gods.

about

Hymns from the deep is an exploration of the dark depths of Moria from J.R.R. Tolkien’s venerated The Lord of the Rings. The lyrics are one long epic poem written by Myrddin Evans, based on the chapter 'The Bridge of Khazad Dum' from The Fellowship of the Ring. This spans across the tracks of the album which musically draws influence from funeral doom, death metal, black metal and dark ambient. All music and instrumental performances come from Daniel Scrivener with Matthew Surry channeling the voice of the Balrog to complete the project. This is cavernous and foreboding funeral doom that is highly recommended to fans of EVOKEN, THE RUINS OF BEVERAST, ESOTERIC.
